Abstraction

Just as Magritte’s "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" reveals the gap between representation and reality, the act of measuring nature similarly exposes the limitations of our tools and concepts in fully encapsulating the complexity of the natural world. Recognising the limitations of measurements in fully capturing the reality of nature has important implications for conservation and biodiversity management. It suggests the need for humility in our scientific approaches, an acknowledgment of what may be missing or oversimplified, and a continuous effort to refine our methods and incorporate broader, more holistic perspectives. Our aim is to build the world's best biodiversity credit market, one that recognises the true value of nature, results in an equitable distribution of benefits and empowers local communities along the way!
